Oh, it feels good to be out West. I took Sasha for a walk in the woods and the snow is really, truly, gone. Even deep in the woods, under large boulders on the north face. She is almost totally recovered from her surgery, although Mark said she gave a yelp as she jumped around the yard this morning. She was able to walk about an hour and 15 minutes off-leash in the woods with no problem. So I'd say she's pretty much OK now.
We began the spring yard and garden clean-up which in truth will last through the fall. In some ways the winter is easier as all we take care of is the inside of the house and some shoveling. Oh yea, then there's carrying the wood in and keeping the fire going... the weeds already have a head start in the perennial beds. How can that be?
We went to a most interesting Passover this evening. It was alternative in so many ways. First, it was vegetarian. Second, they re-wrote much of the service, mixing it up with tradition. There were several same-sex couples present. We started the service in the garden, with our hostess reading a Native American poem to honor Mother Earth. At most passover services I've attended, there is a real sense of anger at the Egyptians who oppressed the Israelites. Not with this group. They made a point of saying that no one's first born child should be killed. They were politically quite left-wing and pro-Palestinian. There was a bottle of olive oil on the table from Palestine -- very much on purpose. All beings were honored, including animals. We were all asked to reflect on how we oppress ourselves and/or others. We were all asked how we'd like the world to be different. It was cool!
