Another Bad Night

Another terrible night. We haven't had a really bad night in a few weeks now. As I was walking her yesterday evening, she had significant diarrhea on the sidewalk. Just before that she "did her business" and everything looked perfectly normal. That should have alerted me for what was to come. She began to act very bratty -- unresponsive to voice commands, rather regressed. Like she'd forgotten everything she has learned to date. I was by myself last night (Mark went to airport to pick up his son and drove him directly to our house out West). That's just as well because Mark totally bums out when Sasha has a bad night.

She woke me at midnight. I tried to ignore her, hoping she'd quiet down. After a while, I went in and found her crate FULL of diarrhea. Wow. Take her out, tie her up (bark, bark, bark -- probably waking the whole neighborhood). Clean up the mess, give her a bath. That took at least 30 minutes. A few hours later she was barking and whining. I went to take a look and she had more diarrhea, although not as much. Clean up, no bath. I am exhausted! She is a sweetie at my feet, quiet as a mouse. She has her first vet visit this morning so I'll take in a stool sample. I'm wracking my brains trying to see if there is any pattern, if we're feeding her something unusual or whatever. I am clueless -- and already tired at the very beginning of a long day.

Other than that I'm reading the monks of New Skete puppy book and playing catch-up. Last night I read about a way to hold a puppy to calm them. I did it last night after mess #1 and it worked. Why didn't I read this book months ago?

Hey Lo,
Your puppy stories remind me so much of when my kids were babies! There were nighttime wakings, exhaustion the next day, lots of poopy diapers & clothes & subsequent baths. I've never had a puppy, but the stories are familiar!
