An unremarkable day at work. I am very, very busy. My schedule is booked solid until mid-July. It has never been that way before. The hospital laid off dozens of therapists last fall so we who are left continue to feel the squeeze. It is stressful, knowing that if somebody really needs to come in -- and it seems like there are more people in crisis than ever before -- there is no place to put them. So I end up seeing people at lunch or staying late. Not my idea of good self-care.
Tonight I went to visit my friend Kande whose twins are now 4+ months old. They were already sleeping so I didn't get the chance to see how much they have grown. I am kind of an honorary aunty. Speaking of babies, I saw a documentary film last night called "Babies". It was simple footage -- no dialogue, really -- following 4 different babies from the US, Mongolia, Japan and Nambia. An odd kind of film. It was mildly interesting. I went mostly because after a medical appointment I enjoy the distraction of sitting in the dark for a few hours, eating popcorn, thinking about something else than cancer medication and statistics.
Tomorrow I'll be in the studio by myself which is really unusual. What will I do?
Mark is doing much better but still not 100%.
Our cat Gem is on his last legs. Mark thinks that we should put him down tomorrow. I'm not ready to do it just yet. We've had him for 14 years and he's an indoor/outdoor cat. It's a small miracle that he's lived so long given how much time he spends outside. He is in pain so it's about time. That's a hard decision to make.
