First Greens

Mark and I drove out West tonight. In the summer season, I rush out of the car to look at the gardens. The spinach was perfect, so we had the first greens of the season from our own patch. So perfect, so crisp, such a deep green. You can practically feel the nutrients enter your body as you eat it, especially raw. We missed just one weekend out here, and it is crazy overgrown already. We roto-tilled the garden then, and I hope we don't have to do it again. It is full of weeds! That speaks to the fertility of the soil, but unfortunately weeds thrive here, too.

The potatoes are up. I've never planted them before so didn't know if it was too early, too deep, too whatever.

I spent the day in the studio with Lynn and Emma. As is our routine now, we both worked on individual projects in the morning, then switched to War and Peace Project in the afternoon. As usual, it was a blast. We've done around 125 now. It is such a fulfilling project.

This weekend I plan to plant the rest of the garden. Which may be a challenge as we are expecting thunderstorms tomorrow and rain on Sunday. Our growing season is so short here that we don't have too much flexibility. It's kind of this weekend of bust.
