Brattleboro with Lynn

Here is Lynn in the studio on Friday, working on the War and Peace Project. Behind her you can see Chris Chou's amazing paintings. It has been really wonderful to share studio space with her. We will move into our own studio in mid-October or November, but in the meantime this has been wonderful.

Yesterday I spent the day at a workshop with Narayan. I often take her some little gift and yesterday I brought her some homemade applesauce; the apples came from our own trees. She loved it and commented that she hadn't brought her lunch and was happy to have something to eat. I was going home anyway -- bombing across town to take care of Sasha and get back to the workshop -- and offered to bring her back some food. She accepted. It feels wonderful to have something to offer her. She has the brahma-viharas, I have applesauce. It's a good exchange!

At the beginning she asked all participants to say why we were attending the workshop. Because of where I was sitting -- I arrived late as usual so had to grab the seat closest to the door -- she asked me to start. I said, "I'm here to soak up Narayan". She beamed at me and opened her arms as if to send a hug. Most of the others responded in kind. One woman said, "I, too, am here to get on the Narayan love train." I am so glad that I decided to stay in town and go. She was on fire and gave an excellent program. I don't care what she teaches -- she could instruct us in frying eggs and it would still be very precious.

Today Lynn and I drove 2.5 hours (each way) to Brattleboro, Vemont, (with Sasha in tow) to meet with our friend Pamela for the magazine interview. Pamela has asked that I not give any details until it is published. So I will just say that we had a wonderful time together. She asked so many intelligent, thought-provoking questions. She was enthusiastic about what we're up to and we left feeling really high. Hopefully the article will run and I can say more about it.
