Lisa's Collage

Here is Lisa's collage. She said that it reminded her of an action hero like Batman. What's been interesting to me about sending out the collages is the recipient's response. With a few exceptions, I just sent whatever I had on hand at the moment. I don't start with a "theme". I didn't think much about how the piece might relate to the person. I am mostly interested in color and pattern/design, yet almost every recipient read a lot of meaning into their piece. Are we wired to read meaning into everything? When I make the piece, I am in the moment, just in the doing. When it's done, I analyze and wonder what it might mean. That's what is so cool about the creative process. There is something magical about it. Mysterious. Some people are so articulate about it. I am not. I can never really explain it. It's fine like that.

A few nights ago Cynthia and I went to see "The Messenger" which was really intense and excellent. We both like obscure, intense films. Before the show we were talking about the collage I gave to her. I didn't make it with her in mind. She asked how I knew that she loves the ocean and sailboats, and why I included some other element. I said that it was completely coincidental, intuitive. We had a good time pondering that. What is at play?

The gift of Friday in the studio. I will stay all day. Lynn will come today and we'll work together for a few hours. I'll stay into the evening as tonight is the opening reception of the "Cool" show. I bought a package of "red dots" yesterday as I anticipate that we will sell a lot of work. There are some fantastic pieces available for $100 or less. All of the artist members are asking -- can we get first dibs? We all have our eyes on our favorite pieces.
