Last night I attended a performance of The Vagina Monologues. It was a really powerful experience. About a dozen women from my job showed up to support one of our colleagues who was performing. I had heard about this show previously but didn't realize the extent of the mission. According to the program, "V-DAY is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through the benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler's award winning play The Vagina Monologues and other artistic works. In 2009 alone, more than 4000 V-DAY events took place in the US and around the world." There is a huge web site that describes this movement.
V-DAY
Today I did a really long walk -- 9.7 miles. I made a trip to the local REI and bought a pedometer. It is an amazing little device that measures number of steps, distance and how many calories you burn based on your weight and height that you enter. Good thing I burned a lot of calories as I came home and ate an enormous amount of food. I was so hungry -- and tired -- I had to sleep for a few hours after that. I walked to my friend Marysia's house -- about 3 miles away -- and we walked together in the Arnold Arboretum. I brought her a copy of the Bhagavad Gita in English and Sanskrit from India and finally had a chance to give it to her today.
I am supposed to be at this 50th birthday party already but am running late. Yoga is a must today -- I am so stiff from that walk.
