Correction: We Actually Walked 29 miles on Day 1

We have had an absolutely fantastic trip. Here is a photo I took on Friday in Golden Gate Park at the AIDS Memorial Grove in honor of JeanZofia's son.

We learned today that the Avon planners messed up and that we actually walked 29 miles on Day 1 rather than the 26 we were expecting. No wonder we were totally falling apart the last few miles. That is, Mark and I. Kelsey was totally fine. She walked yesterday, completing the 13 miles, then walked back to the hotel from Fort Mason; she didn't want to wait for the bus or pay for a taxi. She got severe blisters around mile 8 so is pretty sore today, wearing her slippers on the return trip.

What a trip. Yesterday while Kelsey was walking Mark and I met up with Claude and Paula. They took us out to an interesting part of the city. We ate at a place called Cliff House which has been rebuilt several times. It is right on the ocean. There was a fantastic Camera Obscura from 1905, the only remaining relic from Playland. Next to it are some ruins, the Sutro Baths.

Last night we finished up with a memorable meal at Greens Restaurant, the home of the Greens Cookbook. One of their suppliers is Green Gulch Farm which we visited on Wednesday. We saw where their kale and chard was grown!

So now it's back to "real life". It has been such a wonderful experience to get to close with Kelsey. I spoke with her dad, my brother, yesterday, and he thanked us for exposing her to such a rich experience. I want to take us everywhere we go from now on -- she is the ultimate travel partner.

Lola - THANK YOU so much for this photo. On Sunday it will be 15 years since Henry left Planet Earth. I get teary eyed seeing this and having it be so close to his anniversary.
Congratulations on the 26 miles. All of you.
Safe Journey home. love, JeanZofia
