Lilacs and Lynn

Here is a photo of Lynn and me at the Arnold Arboretum on Sunday. Not just any Sunday, but Lilac Sunday. It was a super windy day so although we appear to be bundled up for winter, it was mostly for the wind. New England weather. Gotta love it.

Ashley will move in with us tomorrow. I don't entirely understand what happened, but their house is being "condemned" due to carbon monoxide. I thought they had to move out immediately, but apparently they have until Friday. We had a lot of fun with her here last August. It kind of reminded me of living in a collage dorm -- in a good way. Lots of late-night chats and snacks.

I went to both of Narayan's classes tonight. Tilla was there for the beginners class. Narayan's fan base is growing! Between classes she thanked me for the cookies last time. I said that I didn't bring her anything tonight -- other than Tilla! We all got a laugh out of that. My sitting practice is getting much steadier. When I first started over 2 years ago, I was always ready to stop way before the bell rang. These days I find myself wishing that the sitting period was longer.

After the second class I was chatting with Karla. Narayan was walking out as we were, and I spontaneously asked if I could take photos with her. Karla obliged. Narayan doesn't want images of her published, so out of respect I won't post it. I will be sure to use it as my screen saver, though. I just loved standing there with her, arms around each other. I could have stayed like that all night. It really is amazing to feel this kind of connection to a spiritual teacher. She is really a special human being. I have never encountered anyone like her. She is not only love and compassion embodied, she is fun. She likes to laugh and engage with all of us. What a blessing to me, to all who know and love her.

Lilacs always remind me of our college graduation. I lived off campus senior year in a room with windows on three sides (VERY cold during that Iowa winter!). There were a lilac bush outside the windows, and they were in full bloom that May. SO fabulous. -Carolyn
