Doubling Up

Daylight Savings started this week. It really feels like the season is shifting. I rode my bike, only to notice as I rode by the bank time/temperature sign that it was 37 degrees this morning. Quite brisk. But I love it nonetheless. I especially light riding at night when the city is relatively quiet.

Here is a picture of Tilla that I took in the late fall when we were in East Boston to see a show at Atlantic Works Gallery. This photo was taken inside my studio. We met up again tonight for the beginners drop-in class. She is really loving this meditation practice and enjoyed tonight again just as much as last week. I think a lot of "advanced" students attend the beginners class as well as the second class "advanced" class. I get so much out of hearing Narayan speak, regardless of the audience she is addressing. She described meditation as a way of loving life. It helps you get intimate with life, regardless of what you are experiencing.

In the second class she continues to talk about "wise speech". She asked us to envision all of the people in our lives who have been helpful in some way, large or small. We did the same exercise last week. In some ways the class is a little like group therapy -- we are each invited to reflect on our experiences inside and outside of class. She is an amazing teacher. She answers each and every question with such aplomb. Tonight I made no attempt to speak with her personally. I don't need to -- her presence completely fills the room and you get what you need by just being in her presence. She is something.
