Avon Walk, San Francisco

I took this photo a week ago, but our road out West still looks much like this. Even our neighbors comment that our house is the last in town to be snow-free. The coordinator of Sugar on Snow said that if there is ever a year with little snow, they will go to our place as we are sure to have plenty. Although yesterday I did notice that one of the south-facing perennial beds next to the house is clear of snow.

I spoke with my niece Kelsey yesterday and we have decided to do the Avon Breast Cancer walk in San Francisco in July. We signed up for 2010 as we walked across the finish line last May in Boston. She has never been to the west coast and is very excited to go. The walk will be July 10 and 11. We are still waiting for final confirmation from the Avon Boston coordinator before booking tickets, but most likely that's what we will do. I'll send around an announcement once our Avon site is up. We each need to raise $1800 in order to participate. Last year our team raised almost $10,000. It's a different economy but I still hope that we can do it. Mark may or not go. I don't like to travel much in the summer, I'd rather stay put in our house out West and tend to the garden, but it's a great opportunity to spend time with Kelsey and to help contribute in some way to find a cure for breast cancer.

Speaking of which, a dear friend started chemo today. It breaks my heart every time I hear of someone else with a breast cancer diagnosis. Enough already!
