The Littlest Angel

Lighthouse Beach, Chatham
Thanksgiving Day 2011
It is so hard to respect my sister's request not to post images of her kids, the Angels! They are so adorable, and I have dozens of new photos of them.

This weekend Zoey, the youngest, now age 6, had her first overnight with me out West. Mark was feeling too worn out from the week so he stayed in the city. So it was just Zoey, Sasha and I. It was a big deal for her. Her older brother and sister have spent time with me out West, but not her. (It was a big deal for me, too. I marvel that my sister trusts me with her precious ones!)

What we actually did is nothing very remarkable. We stayed at the house on the hill all weekend, punctuated by separate visits from Trish and Marysia. We sat by the fire, played Monopoly and played with Sasha. She also made up a lot of games and ran circles around the house. Pure joy to witness. Zoey is such great company. She is up for doing anything. She finally got to snow shoe which she has wanted to do for a very long time. We went out three times. The first time she was a little timid (it was extremely cold!), but by the last time, she was racing ahead of me and Marysia, leaving us breathless and trying to keep up. We baked rose-scented mini bunt cake. Worked in the studio. She made a beautiful acrylic painting that her mom hung up immediately last night. We took a late night walk to relieve Sasha, under a beautiful starry moonless sky. All of this she illustrated in our guest book. It was lovely.

After I dropped her off, the phone rang. It was my sister, saying that Zoey was in tears and inconsolable. She said that she missed me too much already. That was so beautifully painful. I assured her that she can go with us whenever she wants. She was satisfied with that, and hung up the phone with a happy heart.

I will be taking care of them again Tuesday night when my sister has a work event. Which will be the highlight of my week!
