Bucket List

Lynn and Lola at Galatea opening on January 6, 2012
In supervision on Monday, I was talking with Paul about anticipating yesterday's scans. He told me that the term "bucket list" comes from a film that came out a few years ago. I rarely see mainstream films so hadn't even been aware of the title. It is about 2 men who are both dying and are thinking about what they really want to do in life before they "kick the bucket".

Now that the scans are behind me, it makes me think about this again. On Sunday, I got together with Lulu, a friend from college. We were discussing our lives, careers, areas where we fall short. She sent me this quote:

"If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much." Jim Rohn

These scans are always a turning point of sorts. I get motivated to think deeply about how I'm living each day. In the fall term, Narayan asked us to set an intention for each meditation practice, and for the day. My intention for the day is to live it as fully as possible. And then broaden it for each and every day that is to come.

I was totally exhausted after yesterday. I took a hot bath (that happens about once every few years when I am totally exhausted) and lit a candle. Mark brought me in a cup of tea with honey and lemon. I soaked until I fell asleep and the cooling of the water woke up up. Then I slept for 11 hours straight. It was a glorious sleep. So -- what now?

Tomorrow I will go to Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Massachusetts for a 4 day retreat. The focus is metta, the heart-opening practice that I've doing daily for almost 4 years now. No internet, reading, writing, talking. Just sitting, walking, eating and sleeping. A perfect time to reflect on what's next!
